A series of board games have inspired Studio Tenjung’s collection, Play Date. In the spirit of play and experimentation, the studio highlights a lesser-known Tibetan rug- weaving technique called Boorma that uses rods of varying thicknesses to create high and low piles. Also added are flat sumak weaves to create a more dramatic surface relief.
If you haven’t noticed already, we love to pay homage to traditional Tibetan rugs of the past in our designs. The quality of materials, techniques and forms are unmatched. Slides and Ladders makes reference to Wangden rugs and flaunts a thick wooly border in blue and yellow on two sides of this grid design. The original game is called Snakes & Ladders and if you haven’t played it before, spare yourselves the danger of landing in the mouth of the serpent. You can thank us later for this soft landing instead. Two players, two tokens, two ladders, two slides, led by a solo dice. Game starts at the bottom right. Ladders will take you up higher, but if you land on a slide, you can gleefully glide down for more play time.
